Addition of new basement beneath existing four-storey building
Mining techniques have been used to dig beneath the existing raft foundation in order to underpin the existing walls and construct the new foundations. The structural design involved re-using the existing raft foundation as the new suspended lower-ground floor slab in order to reduce the quantity of temporary works and new permanent structure.
Prior to producing the detailed design of the new basement, PJCE produced the Basement Impact Assessment for planning and also obtained approval from the Highways Authority for the structural works. PJCE also designed alterations to the existing building to support the new fit-out works for the entire building.
